The Sun Belt can no longer be labeled “The Fun Belt,” folks.
Marshall football was issued a “public reprimand’ this week after piloting a drone flyover for pregame between the Thundering Herd and Virginia Tech Hokies. The reprimand was given for “drone flying over the field when squad members were present during team introductions.”
The Herd ended up beating the hapless Hokies in front of a sellout crowd, 24-17.
And for what it’s worth, Marshall collected some pretty sweet drone footage from their pregame entrance.

While it’s fair for some to shame the Sun Belt for this move, it’s not terribly difficult to see things from their point of view. A large drone with propellers flying that low around a congested area –as entertaining as it may be – is nothing but a lawsuit waiting to happen in the Sun Belt’s eyes.
