Fran Brown Coaching Bio
Fran Brown was named the top recruiter in college football in 2023 by 247Sports.
But that was at Georgia. An SEC school with a rich history and back-to-back national championships. It wasn’t until he was hired for his first head coaching position at Syracuse in December 2023 that the charismatic New Jersey native really showed the strength of his recruiting chops.
Within a month of his arrival, Brown brought in 3 players with him from the Bulldogs, landed franchise quarterback Kyle McCord from Ohio State, convinced several of the Orange’s top returning players to stay and signed the school’s highest-rated freshman class since the current rating format came into existence.
It’s a mix of talent that helped him produce a 10-win season and earn the Paul “Bear” Bryant Newcomer Coach of the Year award as the nation’s top first-year coach.
Although Brown burst into a rising star during his stay at Georgia, his coaching pedigree is anything but that of a blue blood. He played his college ball at Western Carolina, began his coaching career at a high school in New Jersey and worked his way up the ladder by working as an assistant for the likes of Steve Addazio, Matt Rhule, Greg Schiano and Smart.
