Ole Miss hired Pete Golding as head coach on Nov. 30, 2025. Golding, who was Ole Miss’ defensive coordinator, replaced Lane Kiffin, who left to coach LSU.
Golding has never been a head coach, but he has almost 20 years’ experience as a college assistant.

Pete Golding Bio
Golding grew up in Hammond, Louisiana, and played college football at Delta State. He was a 4-year starter at safety. After graduating in 2005, he started his college coaching career as a grad assistant at Delta State.
He has spent nearly 20 years coaching defenses, usually as the defensive coordinator.
In 2018, Golding joined Nick Saban‘s staff as Alabama’s defensive coordinator. Golding spent 5 seasons with the Crimson Tide, helping them win the 2020 national championship.
He joined former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin’s staff in 2023 as defensive coordinator and replaced Kiffin after he left for LSU just before the 2025-26 College Football Playoff.
Golding is married and has 3 children.
