College football fans stunned at controversial roughing the passer in Alabama-Texas game
It continues to be a strange day in Austin for the referees.
With just under 10 minutes to play in the third quarter and the game ties at 10, it appeared as if Bryce Young was sacked in the end zone for a safety that would have given the Longhorns a 12-10 lead.
A flag was also thrown on the play for a potential targeting call and.or roughing the passer call.
After reviewing the video, the officials said there was no targeting and that the targeting was the only call reviews and that it would be 4th down for Alabama, which subsequently punted from its own 3-yard line.
Roughing the passer & targeting was called on this play…???

To most observers it appeared that either a penalty or a safety would have to be the result of the review, and social media was left in complete shock over the events that transpired:
No doubt… Texas getting a taste of what they’re getting into coming to the SEC. I never realize how much I hate Alabama until we play them. Always playing the refs too.

Alabama has more penalties called against them than Texas so far. But it has been pretty bad

This targeting/roughing/safety situation in the Alabama Texas game is being analyzed like a Supreme Court case…

If Texas loses this game to Alabama by less than two points it's on the officials! That is bogus!! Why was that not an intentional grounding call instead of roughing the passer and targeting?!
