ESPN’s Football Power Index features a shakeup at the top after Week 4.

The Alabama Crimson Tide regain the No. 1 ranking after eviscerating Vanderbilt 55-3. Ohio State jumped to No. 2 in the rankings after bludgeoning Wisconsin 52-21.

Georgia, however, fell from No. 1 to No. 3 in the rankings after narrowly defeating Kent State 39-22. The Bulldogs struggled at times. Kirby Smart told ESPN after the game that he was glad UGA had to handle some adversity. Through the first 3 weeks, UGA had demolished opponents outscoring them 130-10.

Elsewhere in the SEC, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Mississippi State appear in the rankings.

ESPN describes the FPI rankings as the following:

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete.
