College football team already eliminated from bowl eligibility

It has already been a long, rough year for the UConn Huskies. Coming off a last-second loss at Vanderbilt on Saturday, the Huskies are now 0-6 on the season.
Now, according to this Reddit thread, the Huskies have become the first FBS team eliminated from bowl eligibility.
Why? Well, the Huskies still have a game against FCS Yale on their schedule, and that contest won’t be eligible to be counted toward bowl eligibility. Thus, the best the Huskies can do in “countable” games is 5-6.
The thread goes on to explain that there are some miraculous circumstances that could lead to the Huskies gaining bowl eligibility if they finish 5-6, but for all intents and purposes, they are out of the bowl picture.
UConn has a great chance to pick up its first win this weekend, though, as the Huskies travel to take on fellow independent squad UMass. If the Huskies beat UMass, the Minutemen will be eliminated from bowl eligibility, too.
