College football team in Ohio cancels football game amid ongoing threats

College football for one program in Ohio has been put on hold regarding ongoing threats in the area.
The program is Wittenberg University, a Division III program located in Springfield, Ohio. The university announced on Tuesday that all home and away athletic contests through this Sunday, Sept. 22 have been canceled due to safety concerns.

“All home and away contests are canceled through Sunday,” Wittenberg confirmed in a statement. “Stay tuned for further information. Stay safe.”
The university also confirmed on Monday that Wittenberg will continue to operate all classes remotely through this Sunday. Wittenberg released a statement revealing new threats to the university were received on Monday, Sept. 16 that forced the decision.
The statement also says university police are working in cooperation with local law enforcement and FBI to investigate every threat.

The Wittenberg Tigers opened the season with a 24-14 loss to Baldwin Wallace. After being idle over the weekend, Wittenberg was scheduled to play at Hiram before the game was cancelled. As of now, the Tigers are slated to return to action on Sept. 28 with a home game scheduled vs. Howard Payne.
Hopefully, the situation is resolved soon with the university able to return to classes and the football program able to resume its 2024 season.
