College football team stranded at airport following loss in FCS playoffs
It’s been an unfortunate 24 hours for Nicholls State football.
The Colonels fell 35-0 to Southern Illinois in the first round of the FCS Championship playoffs and headed to the airport to make the trip back to Louisiana. However, the team has been stuck at the airport since, unable to return home.
A post from Nicholls State AD Jonathan Terrell painted the scene at 3 a.m. early Sunday morning. Terrell blasted the NCAA in the post, stating “student athlete welfare matters.”

No further update has come from Terrell or Nicholls State.
The Colonels finished their 2023 season 6-5 with a disappointing end Saturday against the Salukis, which will face off against Idaho next weekend as the FCS playoffs continue.
