Conference realignment rumors are still hot even with Week 1 of the 2022 college football season starting on Thursday night.

The Big Ten is at the forefront of many of those rumors, with Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reporting on Thursday that Washington has met with the league to gauge interest in joining the B1G.

McMurphy’s report states that the Big Ten is interested in Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, Cal and Stanford. So, what would happen if the B1G poached 4 more schools (in addition to USC and UCLA) from the Pac-12?

Well, McMurphy says the Big 12 would target 4 additional schools from the Pac-12 to join its conference:

If those Pac-12 schools leave for the Big Ten, the Big 12 has targeted Arizona, Utah, Arizona State and Colorado as potential members, sources said.

Obviously, that would be a death blow for the Pac-12, as it would leave Washington State and Oregon State as its only remaining members.

Of course, the Pac-12 could also seek expansion itself, in order to try to keep the aforementioned schools (other than USC and UCLA) from leaving. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks and months (and possibly years), but it seems the conference realignment situation is far from being fully resolved.
