It’s a bad day to be a head football coach named Dana from the state of Texas.
Shortly after Houston fired head coach Dana Holgorsen Sunday morning, UTEP announced that it will be moving on from HC Dana Dimel, who has won just 20 games across the past 6 seasons for the Miners.
Dimel finished his time at UTEP with just 1 winning season and a 20-49 record. The Miners won 7 games in 2021 but fell to Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl, 31-24.

UTEP now joins a growing list of schools around the country looking for new head coaches, including Texas A&M, Houston, Boise State, Indiana, Oregon State, New Mexico, Syracuse and San Diego State.
Mississippi State is technically in this mix as well, but the Bulldogs have reportedly zeroed in on Oklahoma OC Jeff Lebby. Nothing official has been announced by Mississippi State as of 1 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon.
