Dabo Swinney and Clemson are gearing up for their first game against Wake Forest on September 12. Preseason practice is almost in the books, and the Tigers are ready to jump into their game week preparation.

The ACC, SEC and Big 12 are moving forward with the season, while the Big Ten and Pac-12 — as of now — aren’t. Rumors around the Big Ten have said that the conference may have another vote to start the season at some point in October or November. There’s also been talk about a January start.

The Pac-12 also announced a new testing procedure Thursday and is looking at numerous options to restart the season at some point.

Swinney, however, isn’t in favor of the College Football Playoff, which has already announced that it will proceed as-is, waiting on the 2 conferences who have already opted out. We would assume that most ACC, SEC and Big 12 coaches would align with Swinney in this thinking.

“No, we’re ready to roll,” Swinney said. “That would be something I wouldn’t be in favor for (delaying the Playoff until the Big Ten and Pac-12 finish their seasons). … It’d be kind of hard to start in November and then push the season into February and all that stuff. We’re going to push forward, and if it changes it changes. But that’s where we are right now.”

However, Swinney is in favor of the Big Ten and Pac-12 to be included if they can start the season sooner rather than later.

“I’d love for them to play,” he said.

With the current timeline, however, it’s unlikely the 2 Power 5 conferences would be included in the Playoff.
