2019’s biggest upset (so far) came from South Carolina’s 20-17 double overtime win over Georgia.

The Gamecocks went into Sanford Stadium and took down the undefeated Bulldogs. The upset shook everything up in college football, most notably the rankings and College Football Playoff projections.

Defending national champion Clemson had the same type of game against North Carolina last month. Instead of losing, Clemson found a way to pull it out 21-20, as the Tigers stopped the Tar Heels’ two-point conversion attempt.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney learned of the Gamecocks’ upset win over Georgia after the Tigers throttled FSU 45-14. Swinney weighed in on the big upset.

“That’s college football,” Swinney said, via The State. “North Carolina beats South Carolina. South Carolina beats Georgia. That’s college football. That’s just the way it rolls. You better show up every week. Anybody can beat anybody. I believe that.

“And South Carolina’s a good football team. They’ve got great coaches down there.”

Clemson won’t play rival South Carolina until November 30, but Swinney, his staff and the players have seen film on the Gamecocks from the North Carolina game.

“They’re a good team. They’ve gotten a lot better defensively. I have no idea what happened in the (Georgia) game. I’ve got no clue. But nothing surprises me in college football. Nothing,” Swinney said. “That’s why you play the game… I think that’s a huge win for them for sure. A division game and so forth. A great win.”
