The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners suffered a massive 38-35 upset Saturday at the hands of the Kansas State Wildcats.

OU had Kansas State 35-14 until the Wildcats marched back and won it late in the second half with a field goal. The Sooners had a chance to tie or take the lead with 4 minutes remaining; however, Kansas State’s defense held strong.

The Wildcats defense forced 3 INTs.

Following the Sooners’ loss, the Texas Longhorns appear to be the team to beat in the Big 12. The winner of the Red River Showdown between OU and Texas could still make the Playoff obviously. Losing early in the season is better than losing late, but losing to Kansas State could be tough to overcome in the Playoff Committee’s eyes.

Most every analyst, however, had Oklahoma in their preseason College Football Playoff projections, and this loss is a huge hit to the Sooners’ Playoff candidacy.

If there’s no undefeated Big 12 winner, that could open the door for a Group of 5 undefeated team in the Playoff race.
