Dr Pepper steps in to correct controversial Big 12 tuition giveaway outcome
Dr Pepper is not just one of the most popular sodas on the market today. It is also beloved for the annual Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway events that dominate Championship Weekend.
During halftime of the major conference championship games, a pair of students compete live on the field for a chance to win tuition money from Dr Pepper. On Saturday, that included students identified as Ryan and Gavin dueling it out during the Big 12 Championship.
The contest was a barn burner with overtime and an eventual “shoot out” to determine the winner. In the end, Ryan won the event during the shoot-out period but some controversy was realized after the event.
During one of the overtime periods, Ryan was awarded 6 points when he should have been credited with 5:

Fortunately, Dr Pepper is stepping in to correct the situation. During the fourth quarter of the Big 12 Championship, Sean McDonough revealed on air that both contestants will receive $100,000 as a result of the “technical snafu” involved.

“Because of the technical snafu, we’re happy to report Dr Pepper is recognizing both of those deserving finalists as grand-prize winners,” McDonough announced. “They’re both going to receive $100,000 in tuition.”
“That’s amazing, Dr Pepper’s the best,” said Greg McElroy. “Love them for that, and I’m going to drink 15 Dr Pepper’s like Forrest Gump.”
