The Clemson Tigers are the defending national champions, but they’ve fallen to No. 4 in the current AP Poll.

Where will they be on Tuesday night when the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season are released?

ESPN’s Joey Galloway thinks the Tigers should be No. 1. He said on Monday Night Countdown that he has Clemson in the top spot, followed by LSU, Alabama and Ohio State (via 247Sports):

“I think it’s pretty easy. The defending national champion who is undefeated in Clemson is still No. 1,” Galloway said. “People want to talk about they haven’t looked as good as they looked last year, but they’re undefeated. At No. 2, I have LSU. They probably have the best resume of anyone out there, very talented team, Joe Burrow is playing very well.

“At No. 3 is Alabama. We’re going to find out this week (whether the Tide should be ranked higher) because they play (LSU on Saturday). Then at No. 4 is Ohio State, The Ohio State University.”

Why should the Tigers be at No. 1? Galloway said football is tough, and even close wins are still wins:

“Here’s the thing, like I said to people who have argued why is Clemson No. 1, tell me who you think beats Clemson right now,” he said. “A close game doesn’t bother me, everyone is going to have close games. You know, football games are hard to win. Everybody is going to have a close one. So just because they had one close game against North Carolina, people have jumped off (the bandwagon). I’m not jumping off. I know what that team is and I’ve seen them do it.”

Will the CFP committee agree? We’ll find out tomorrow night.
