High school official appears to blatantly cheat on horrible first-down spot
Officials often take unwarranted criticism, with fans calling them biased even when they’re simply calling a fair and balanced game.
Then, there are the other times, when officials are blatantly caught on video appearing to favor one team over the other.
That seemed to be the case on Friday night in New Jersey. As you can see below, an official taking a measurement on a crucial 4th-and-7 play appears to stop the chains from being fully stretched out for the measurement. He then appears to move the ball forward a few inches before signaling for a first down:
Just going to let this sit here … You make the call. Wow ? pic.twitter.com/vA31zfotDj

It seems likely that the official’s actions will be reviewed. That appears to be a pretty blatant disregard for the rules.
We’ll see if any punishment is delivered by those in charge of New Jersey high school athletics.
