James Madison football has finally fallen.

The Dukes, previously undefeated on the year, dropped a dramatic contest to Appalachian State Saturday evening, 26-23 in overtime.

JMU trailed 20-12 with just seconds remaining in the game but was able to tie it up before zeroes. However, the Dukes were unable to score a touchdown in overtime and now sit at 10-1 on the season.

And that’s after the crew at College GameDay picked all picked the Dukes to protect home turf against the Mountaineers.

Appalachian State: Playing the underdog role to perfection since 2007.

James Madison had caught national attention this season after a perfect 10-0 start to the year before its loss on Saturday. Despite this, James Madison was never going to be eligible for a New Year’s 6 bowl game because of the NCAA transition rules.

The only way the Dukes can play in a bowl is if there are not enough bowl eligible (6-6) teams.

James Madison will end its regular season next weekend against Coastal Carolina at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
