Jim Harbaugh had reportedly been looking for a return to the NFL sidelines, his first job in the pros since parting ways with the San Francisco 49ers at the end of the 2014 season and ultimately being hired by his alma mater, Michigan.

On Wednesday, Harbaugh was in Minnesota to interview for the Vikings’ vacant head coaching position. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he will remain with the Wolverines in 2022.

“Jim Harbaugh told (Michigan AD) Warde Manuel that this would not be a re-occurring issue and he would stay at Michigan as long as it wants him, per sources,” Schefter reported.

Harbaugh is 61-24 as the head coach of the Wolverines, with a 42-17 mark in the Big Ten. In 2021, Michigan went 12-2 (8-1 B1G) and defeated Iowa 42-3 in the Big Ten Football Championship Game.

That sealed its first-ever bid in the College Football Playoff, where it lost to eventual national champion Georgia 34-11 in the Orange Bowl semifinal game.
