Joel Klatt made a point Monday afternoon to criticize the handling of the schedule for the College Football Playoff national championship game.

And Klatt’s criticism is definitely fair. Klatt doesn’t like that the championship game – which is supposed to be the payoff for months of storylines, blood, sweat and tears – is being played as an afterthought to the NFL Playoffs.

Saturday and Sunday of this week belonged to the NFL, and most college football games are played on Saturday. Doesn’t it feel strange that the final and most important game of the season is played on a random Monday?

Here’s his full take on the matter:

Even before the College Football Playoff expanded to 12 teams this past season, the national championship game being on a Monday was always strange. But the obstacle the NFL presents is tough to overcome.

No doubt, regardless of timing, tonight’s game is going to be a good one. Notre Dame and Ohio State isn’t exactly the national championship we thought we’d get, but there’s no doubt both teams have earned their spot in Atlanta fighting for the crown.

Notre Dame is moving the ball well on their first drive. Let’s see how this one develops.
