Kirk Herbstreit on Monday unveiled his top-performing teams from Week 12’s college football action. A couple of teams from outside the Power 5 made the cut this time around.
Appalachian State led the way by virtue of their 26-23 overtime win over James Madison to end the Dukes’ undefeated season. Shawn Clark’s team improved to 7-4 (5-2 Sun Belt) with the win and close out against Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Meanwhile, New Mexico State, under Jerry Kill, went to Jordan-Hare Stadium and left with a 31-10 win over Auburn. The Aggies — 2-10 just 2 seasons ago — ended the regular season at 9-3, their best mark in over 6 decades.
Also on Herbstreit’s list: Washington, Kansas State, Arizona, Clemson, and UNLV.
Washington remained perfect with a 22-20 win over Oregon State, while Kansas State topped in-state rival Kansas 31-27. Arizona, in the midst of its best season in nearly a decade, dismantled Utah 42-18, while Clemson beat North Carolina for its 3rd straight win. And UNLV, in its first season under Barry Odom, beat Air Force to improve to 9-2 (6-1 MW) after a 5-win campaign in 2022.
