Oklahoma State is in a standoff with longtime head coach Mike Gundy, according to a report.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that news on Friday afternoon. Per Thamel, OSU has asked him to sign a “restructured contract,” which would include a pay cut.

The report also says Gundy could be fired for cause if he doesn’t agree to the new deal.

This move from Oklahoma State comes after Gundy’s worst-ever season as its head coach. The Cowboys went 3-9 overall and 0-9 in Big 12 play. This is the first time Oklahoma State will not be apart of bowl season since 2005 — Gundy’s first year at the helm in Stillwater.

Gundy is widely-regarded as the best Oklahoma State football coach of all time. He has 169 wins at the school — over 100 more than the next-closest coach. OK State has won 10+ games in 11 different seasons throughout its history — Gundy has led the charge in 8 of those campaigns.

If Oklahoma State and Gundy do part ways, it would become the 5th power-conference head coaching position to open this offseason. North Carolina, Purdue, UCF and West Virginia previously opened.
