Sad news to report this Sunday morning out of the Orlando area.

According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel, 2020 Louisville football signee Dexter Rentz Jr. was shot and killed late on Saturday night.

Per the report, 4 people were shot, but Rentz is the only one who has died from his wounds. The police reportedly don’t have anyone in custody in connection with the shooting at this point:

At about 11:19 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Elese Street and Deerock Drive. Four people were shot, with Rentz the only victim who has died from his wounds.

Police detained a person driving away from the area of the shooting, but OPD later reported it was not related to the incident.

Louisville coach Scott Satterfield issued a statement on Rentz after learning of the 3-star athlete’s death:

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dexter Rentz,” Satterfield’s statement read. “He was a great young man who had a contagious personality, and was able to light up a room with his smile. He was a great kid to be around and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Rentz family during this extremely difficult time.”

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Rentz was the No. 75 athlete in the 2020 class and the No. 147 overall recruit from the state of Florida.
