Sherrone Moore is the next head coach of Michigan!

Following the departure of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL, Moore was always the likely candidate to replace Harbaugh to lead the Wolverines. In this era of roster turnover accompanying coaching changes, there is some measure of stability presented by keeping the next decision in-house.

On Friday, Michigan made things official with Moore stepping in to lead the program:

Moore’s time in Ann Arbor dates back to 2018 when he joined Harbaugh’s staff after a 4-year stint at Central Michigan. Originally hired as the tight end coach for the Wolverines, Moore was moved to co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2021.

Moore’s switch to lead the offensive line paid off as the Wolverines leaned on the trenches to kickstart a 3-year string of B1G dominance. Along the way, Moore’s unit was a back-to-back recipient of the Joe Moore Award in 2021-22 before rolling to a national title in 2023.

The 2023 season contained many twists and turns for Moore and Harbaugh. Both men were suspended for the season opener while Moore would eventually serve as the acting head coach for 4 games — all wins — in place of Harbaugh.

Moore showed his worth on the field for Michigan this season, boosting what was an already strong stock as a rising candidate for head coaching jobs. Harbaugh even nominated Moore for the status of “Michigan man” following the end of the regular season and Michigan’s win over Ohio State.

Now, Moore will get his chance to carve his own path to legendary status as leader of the Wolverines.
