Paul Finebaum suggests playing CFP games during Army-Navy week: ‘That is a wasted Saturday’
Paul Finebaum isn’t afraid to say exactly what’s on his mind, even if it might ruffle some feathers with some college football fans.
The ESPN college football analyst added his 2 cents to the Army-Navy game debate that’s been a popular topic in college football circles this week.
On Thursday, during an appearance on The Matt Barrie Show, Finebaum boldly suggested that the Army-Navy game doesn’t need to have its own Saturday in the middle of December because “that is a wasted Saturday.”
One day after Joel Klatt suggested that the Army-Navy spectacle be placed at the beginning of the season, Finebaum had a whole different take on the topic. Finebaum said he believes there should be College Football Playoff games played on the Saturday that’s usually reserved for Army-Navy.
“We’re wasting a week. I know I’m going to upset somebody, but the week of the Army-Navy game needs to be the Playoff (games). What do we have that Saturday, the Army-Navy game and the Heisman (Trophy)?” said Finebaum.
The idea behind playing CFP games on that Saturday is it would allow for the season to be completed a week earlier. It would also reduce the amount of time off between games for Playoff teams who didn’t compete in a conference title game.
Finebaum also endorsed Klatt’s proposal of placing the annual Army-Navy game at the beginning of each college football season.
Time will tell what those in charge of college football do with the calendar, and specifically the Army-Navy topic that has caught fire during the week leading up to the national championship game.
