Even though the College Football Playoff is set to be played as scheduled for now, it’s tough to tell what effects the COVID-19 pandemic will have on the rosters of the teams involved. It has already meant a shift to one of the venues as restrictions placed upon most of the state of California has caused the relocation of the Rose Bowl semifinal from Pasadena to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

But what if an outbreak occurs and renders one of the 4 teams unable to play?

According to ESPN college football reporter Heather Dinich, there could be a contingency to postpone the games past their scheduled dates in case that happens. Thus far, that covers the relocated semifinal originally set for Pasadena and the Sugar Bowl semifinal in New Orleans, along with the national championship game in Miami Gardens. Along with that, a trio of New Year’s 6 bowls—the Cotton, Fiesta and Peach Bowls—would be covered, as well.

However, Dinich also reports that “it’s unclear right now” whether that plan would be in place for the Orange Bowl as well. Of course, that is scheduled to be played at Hard Rock Stadium less than 10 days before the national championship will be contested at the venue.

It sounds like the details are still being worked out. That being said, hopefully it’s a plan that ultimately does not need to be enacted.
