Tim Tebow, Andre Ware give their Heisman Trophy frontrunners entering Week 9
Tim Tebow and Andre Ware know what it takes to win a Heisman Trophy. Ware, who starred for Houston, won the prestigious award in 1989. Tebow, meanwhile, is considered one of the best college quarterbacks ever and won his Heisman at Florida in 2007.
On Thursday, the college football greats joined ESPN’s Kevin Negandhi to give their early Heisman picks for 2024.
Tebow sees Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty as the favorite, with Miami’s Cam Ward, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel just behind the running back.
“At number one, I’m going to have to give the slight lead to Ashton Jeanty,” said Tebow. “He’s leading the FBS in so many different categories.”
Ware agreed with Tebow’s list, just not the order.
“For me, I’m going to give the slight edge to Cam Ward,” explained Ware. “He leads the country in passing yards as well as touchdown passes. He (Ward) has single-handedly uplifted “The U.”
As Tebow mentioned, Jeanty leads the nation in several categories. This is especially impressive considering the RB has only played in 6 games thus far. Jeanty has 1,248 rushing yards with 17 TDs and is averaging a whopping 9.9 yards per attempt and 208 yards per game.
Meanwhile, Ward has been one of college football’s best stories. The former Washington State QB has Miami undefeated and has already thrown for 2,538 yards and 24 TDs.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Jeanty is the current favorite to win the award with +220 odds, and fans can use SDS’s sports betting apps to get in on the action. Jeanty is seeking to become the 1st RB to win the Heisman since Derrick Henry did so in 2015.
