Travis Hunter captured the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night and then lit up social media the same way he tore up football fields while excelling as a 2-way player in 2024.
The junior was a menace as a wide receiver for the Buffaloes, piling up 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. And when Colorado was on defense, he was a stud at cornerback, too, helping shut down opposing defenses. He ultimately became the first defensive player to win the Heisman since Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997.
Hunter edged out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who won the Doak Walker and Maxwell awards on Thursday night but finished second to Hunter for the Heisman. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami quarterback Cam Ward finished third and fourth, respectively, for the most prestigious award in college football.
Hunter, who is expected to be a top prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, helped lead Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes to a 9-3 record and a spot in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio against BYU on Dec. 28. Hunter has already committed to playing in the bowl game to finish his collegiate career “off right.”
Many fans would say he already did that on Saturday night by winning the Heisman Trophy, and the reaction on social media was as huge as Hunter’s performances were in 2024. Here are a sample of them:
