Tulane and UCF battle for the AAC championship at 4 p.m. ET Saturday. The Green Wave look to take revenge on UCF for an earlier loss while the Knights attempt to claim their 3rd title in 6 years.
Tulane vs. UCF preview
Tulane is looking to win its first AAC Championship since the championship game was formed in 2015. Cincinnati has won it twice, as has UCF. The Green Wave, on the other hand, are dead set on making history Saturday evening.
It starts with running back Tyjae Spears, who has rushed for 1,117 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. The Green Wave can be dangerous on offense because of Spears and quarterback Michael Pratt, who keep Tulane’s offense from being predictable day in and day out.

Pratt, to his credit, has tossed for 2,382 yards, 21 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions this year to lead the Green Wave to a 10-2 regular season. Only UCF and Southern Miss were able to dethrone a team that downed Kansas State earlier this season.
But the better offense of the 2 belongs to the Knights. UCF has totaled 486.5 yards per game this season, good enough for 9th in the FBS. They’re also top 25 in points per game and yards per play this season, with the Green Wave not far behind.
Gus Malzahn’s squad is quick and efficient, led by former Ole Miss quarterback John Rhys Plumlee. The dual-threat Plumlee can do it all, having thrown for 14 touchdowns and rushed for 11. He leads the team in rushing yards with 848 on the season and has thrown for 2,195 yards. Truly, Plumlee has been showing out this season.

Facing this Green Wave defense is no easy task though. Teams are averaging just 19.8 points per game against Tulane this season, a scary thought to go alongside a top 30 offense in the nation. Linebacker Dorian Williams leads the way, having totaled 104 tackles, 4 sacks, 6 deflected passes, 2 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles this season. Williams has been a terror for offenses across the country all year long.
Tulane vs. UCF prediction
Flip a coin twice. The most likely result you are going to get is one tails, one heads.
That’s about where we are at with Tulane and UCF. The Green Wave dropped a close contest to the Knights earlier in the year, 38-31. They both finished with similar records and are within 4 spots from each other in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. A spot at the Cotton Bowl is almost certainly on the line.
It’s a 50/50 battle. Ultimately, Tulane is more likely to learn from its past mistakes against UCF and come out on top in its home stadium behind a strong defense and a team as a whole that is looking for something to prove.
Prediction: Tulane 34, UCF 31
