Meanwhile, it's "national signing day", which of course is not what it used to be. But as far as I can tell, the Gators inked zero players today. Every day with this coach and AD just delays the inevitable teardown.
Let's hope one of them is an offensive coordinator. I won't hold my breath, however.
Meanwhile, Billy Napier - fresh off his glorious 5-7 season - does absolutely nothing. Gonna be several more long years in Gainesville.
Along with good citizenship and minor things like staying out of jail, add geography to the list of things "THE" Ohio State University fails to teach.
"Napier’s only hope is that expectations for Year 3 are so low that he quiets some doubters with an 8-4 season. Easier said than done." How far we have fallen. And it's not at all easy to see any path upwards for the next 4 years (Napier gets fired next year and it's another 3-year cycle after that). When "we hope we get to a bowl to get the extra practices" becomes the goal, you are doomed. The Gators were doomed the minute this season began. This must change.
Billy Napier, your bottle of Champagne is on the way. Congratulations. You did more for Daniels than you have done for the Gators.
Hard to believe anything but the worst at this point. On what would any positive thinking be based? I see no silver linings.
The problem is hope. Lack of hope, to be specific. Fan bases are patient if they believe in the person and the process. Coach Napier has given us some hope in the latter (at least with recruiting) and very little hope in the former. Put another way, he appears to stink as a coach. Fans can see this, and recruits can see this. I'm not sure how hiring a new OC will help with game management and decision making. 2023 is lost. 2024 looks little better. Do you wait until the end of another season-long dumpster fire, get rid of Napier then and postpone competitiveness until 2027? Do you get it over with now (knowing it will happen anyways) and get a competent coach and target 2026? Or do you stay the course and hope for what appears to require a miraculous improvement in coaching? No good options. The future appears very bleak indeed.
It's a very bleak future ahead of us. 5-7 this year, but Napier will coach next year, perhaps into 2025, before the inevitable happens and he is fired. Then it's another 2-3 years of transition, maybe 1-2 if Scott Stricklin is also canned and the new AD is willing to swing for the fences. So 2027, 2028 before there is any chance at relevance. I hope I'm wrong. But it's hard to see any silver lining in this coach.
An off day but a huge win. Hopefully the momentum keeps building!
"But if that’s the moment you suddenly believed in Billy Napier’s vision … Tallahassee help you." No. It's not that. It's more like this win at least suggests the possibility that what Napier is building will work in the long run. Conversely, losing to that sad sack bunch, even on the road, would have cast yet more doubt. And getting blown out Utah/KY style would have collapsed all hope. I'm far from sold on Coach Napier but at least there is a ray of hope. Which is more than this fan base has had in many years. Time will tell, but let's let the slow build roll for another year and then evaluate. In the meantime, all wins are good.
Have to admit I did not give them a chance in hell after they fell behind by 10. Napier's offense is not an offense that shows ability to come back. Glad I was wrong. Maybe there is a slight ray of hope for the future. On to the next one.
"Saturday isn’t about Napier’s job security" Maybe, but it's hard to see much of a path forward if they lose - especially if they lose badly like Utah and Kentucky. On what would any confidence in a better future be based at that point? USC is bad. Even Muschamp or McElwain would beat them. If Napier cannot - if it's not close - might be time to start making some phone calls.
I think Napier has to be on the list, maybe with an asterisk. I like Napier, want him to succeed, but nothing about the end of last season and this offseason gives much confidence or hope of success this year. If the Gators are historically bad - if they win 2 or 3 games and get run out of the stadium by GA, LSU, and the clown college - then $31M might seem possible for the boosters. This is especially true if they are so bad they start losing recruits from the very solid 2024 class.
Late to the conversation, but I wanted to add that the Gators Men's Golf team also won the NCAA championship this spring, and Gator Fred Biondi won the Men's individual title. A baseball championship would cap off an excellent spring.
Way to blow the SEC Sweep, Tigers. All that hype about Brian Kelly taking LSU to instant glory was just, well, hype. Worst part is they lost to the clown college.
Last year's Gators lose that game. Still need to clean up the "3rd and Grantham", but a huge win. Back to momma's basement with you, Pac 12.
It could not have happened to a nicer bunch of "gentlemen". Good riddance.
No matter how bad the season, it would be 100x worse to lose to the clown college. Congrats, Florida. Go Gators!
I don't know how you exclude Mike Leach from any dinner invite. And going off the board a bit, I'd ask former CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist, who is by far my favorite announcer of all time. As for a C h r is t m as tune, I'll take "The Season's Upon Us" by the Dropkick Murphys. Failing that, I'll go with Back D o o r Santa by Clarence Carter.
Multiple reports that Mullen is out. Good. But the flaming dumpster fire left in his wake will take some time to overcome. Hopefully they start with a great recruiter and then get coordinators who can handle the Xs and Os.
