A day after getting released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Vernon Hargreaves is heading to a new NFL team.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Hargreaves, a former Florida cornerback, has been claimed by the Houston Texans off waivers. Hargreaves had been on the Buccaneers since he was drafted by them in 2016.

However, Hargreaves had a tumultuous end to his time in Tampa Bay. The former Gator’s release on Tuesday came two days after he was benched for a lack of hustle in the Buccaneers’ win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Hargreaves immediately provides a defensive boost to the Texans, who lead the AFC South at 6-3. In nine games this season, Hargreaves has 40 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a touchdown.

Over his first four NFL seasons, Hargreaves has 165 tackles and two interceptions in 35 games. He only played in one game in 2018 due to a shoulder injury.

Hargreaves played at Florida from 2013-15 before he was selected by the Bucs with the No. 11 overall pick in the first round of the 2016 draft.
