Reports out of Gainesville on Monday indicated that three of Florida’s top wide receivers missed the team’s first practice and were considering opting out for the season. On Tuesday, one of those wide receivers indicated he’s looking forward to playing in Week 1.

On Tuesday, many Gator fans were relieved to see Trevon Grimes, one of the missing receivers on Monday, tweeting about UF’s Week 1 matchup.

“Ole Miss Week 1,” Grimes wrote, tagging Rebels wideout Elijah Moore.

Grimes is considered Florida’s leading returning wide receiver entering 2020. In 2019, seniors Van Jefferson, Tyrie Cleveland, Freddie Swain and Josh Hammond were four of the team’s top six pass-catchers. Grimes and standout tight end Kyle Pitts are expected to be the team’s top receivers this season.

Grimes is coming off a junior season where he posted 33 catches for 491 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was a member of the class of 2017, rated the No. 6 wide receiver and No. 41 prospect overall on the 247Sports Composite. Grimes originally signed with Ohio State but transferred to Florida ahead of the 2018 season.

Earlier this offseason, Urban Meyer named his former wide receiver as one of his breakout picks for 2020.

“So I went with Trevon Grimes at Florida,” Meyer said. “I think Florida is gonna have a heck of a year. If they stay healthy, I’m picking them to be a playoff team. He actually played for me at Ohio State. Big, tall, legitimate 10.3 100 meter guy with a returning quarterback, returning coaching staff.”
