Anthony Richardson hasn’t been able to recapture the magic in the NFL that he displayed at Florida while making SEC defenses look foolish.

Not yet, at least. But on Wednesday morning, the former Gators phenom was given another chance to take the Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback position and run with it like he used to run around and through those college defenses. Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that Richardson will be re-inserted as the team’s starting QB for this Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Steichen also announced that the Colts will stick with Richardson as their starter for the rest of the season, committing to the player they chose with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 draft. Indianapolis changed its mind on its quarterback saga mid-week, as Steichen had said Monday that veteran Joe Flacco would start against the Jets.

Flacco started the Colts’ past 2 games in place of Richardson but they lost both of them, falling to 4-6 after a 4-3 start.

The Colts benched Richardson last month following a game against the Houston Texans when he asked to come out of the game for 1 play because, as he later told reporters, he “was tired.”

Now, Indianapolis is putting its faith yet again in Richardson, who has thrown 7 interceptions against just 4 touchdown passes so far in 2024. Richardson’s QBR this season is a measly 37.6.
