Anthony Richardson reveals reason he briefly removed himself from Colts’ Week 8 loss
Anthony Richardson’s Indianapolis Colts had a tough AFC South showdown against the Houston Texans in NFL Week 8. Things did not go well for Richardson, who was ripped apart on social media for his performance.
In the 3rd quarter, with his team trailing, Richardson briefly left the field and was replaced by Joe Flacco. Even the CBS announcers thought the QB was injured as leaving the field in the middle of the drive is rare for a QB under normal circumstances.
However, the team said Richardson did not have an injury, and the QB explained himself after the game:
“Tired, I ain’t gonna lie. That was a lot of running right there that I did … So, I just told (head coach) Shane (Steichen) I needed a break right there,” said Richardson.

The QB only missed one play, and all Flacco was asked to do in relief was hand the ball to Jonathan Taylor. Richardson had scrambled on the previous 2 plays, so it’s understandable to be tired.
However, it’s questionable to see a QB leave the field as his team is trailing and trying to drive and score points. Richardson gave fans plenty of other things to complain about on Saturday as well.
The former Florida Gator completed just 10 of 32 passes for 175 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. The Colts would go on to lose 23-20 and fall to 4-4 on the season.
