Big pick up: Gators enamored with new teammate Brenton Cox on practice field
Brenton Cox isn’t wasting any time making a memorable first impression with his new teammates at Florida.
The Georgia transfer, who is requesting a waiver to play from the NCAA, has impressed teammates like WRs Trevon Grimes and Freddie Swain, two experienced returning starters.
“He does moves I’ve never seen,” Grimes said, according to Jacquie Franciulli.
Added Swain, to Will Sammon, “He gets off the ball so fast. It kind of shocks you. He moves kind of like a receiver.”
Cox was a key figure in Georgia ‘s 2018 recruiting class. He was a 5-star linebacker prospect and chose Georgia over Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State. He played 13 games for Georgia last season, with 20 tackles.
On Monday, Florida coach Dan Mullen said the Gators would apply for a waiver, and seemed optimistic about the chances of receiving one. If that happens, Cox would make an immediate impact and be an immediate upgrade for the Florida defense.
Cox earlier this week tweeted, “All these shots I’m takin, they must not know I’m Bulletproof.”
