The quarterback is the one actually out there on the field. It makes sense that he should have as much understanding of the game plan as the head coach, right?

Florida head coach Billy Napier agrees. He discussed starter Anthony Richardson Wednesday when asked how he likes to involve his quarterbacks in the game plan.

That has to be a reassuring comment for Florida Gator fans to hear. Playing to a quarterback’s strengths often makes too much sense for some coaches to understand. Insisting a certain system or particular call will work when a quarterback does not have the same feel for the situation is a recipe for disaster.

And Napier needs things to be running smoothly and without unnecessary stress Saturday at 7 pm EST. The Gators host No. 7 Utah in what will be their most telling non-conference game of the season.

We’ll see if Napier and Richardson are ready to go very soon.
