Billy Napier and the Florida Gators get some much-needed rest ahead of October’s 28’s matchup against Georgia in Jacksonville.

On Wednesday at the SEC’s weekly teleconference, Napier explained what his team is doing on the open date after downing South Carolina in comeback fashion last weekend. The Gators are 5-2 on the season entering a nightmare stretch against the Bulldogs, Arkansas, Mizzou, LSU and Florida State.

Here’s what Napier had to say:

“Right in the middle of really doing some quality control, all 3 parts of our team,” Napier said. “Solid practice yesterday, we’re back out there today, and then Thursday. Players off Friday and Saturday. I’ve been working on the Gators. Yesterday and today, kind of developing practice around the areas where we needed to improve. Been healthy and did think this will create opportunities for some of our guys to get a little fresher, a little more healthier as a team and then certainly work on Georgia the back half of the week and once we get in here Sunday.”

He continued…

“Overall pleased with the attitude and the effort and looking forward to the next opportunity. … We’re working on ourselves, we’re in the middle of evaluating things that we’ve done well, things that we need to do better. We’ll start commenting on Georgia and working on Georgia later in the week. … We’re right in the middle of that growth is what I would say. We’re going to find out what we’re made of here in the back half. But it’s important that we keep humility. I was reading earlier today, Mick Cronin the UCLA basketball coach said show me a guy that’s not humble and I’ll show you a guy that’s getting ready to be humbled. It’s important for us, we have to view where we’re at relative to the entire experience and not just last week’s experience.”

The Bulldogs are still dangerous, but especially with the recent injury to Brock Bowers they are also vulnerable. Unlike last year, this Georgia team is absolutely capable of being beaten.

It’ll be a fun one in Week 9.
