Billy Napier released a statement on the departure of co-defensive coordinator Patrick Toney on Wednesday.

Toney, who is leaving for a role with the Arizona Cardinals, has coached with Napier for the past 5 seasons dating back to his time at Louisiana.

Here is Napier’s statement:

“We would like to congratulate Patrick Toney on his new challenge & opportunity in the National Football League. PT has been a pivotal part of our success over the last five years. He has set a great example and been a relentless worker and learner. He is a selfless teammate and one of the finest coaches and teachers we have ever been around. We are forever thankful for his contributions to our teams and we wish him and Courtney well as they continue their journey.”

Toney is expected to be replaced by Alabama linebackers coach Austin Armstrong. He joined the Crimson Tide’s staff earlier this offseason after spending the previous 2 years as the defensive coordinator for Southern Miss. Sean Spencer is expected to remain as co-defensive coordinator.

Florida is also losing tight ends coach William Peagler to the Cardinals, according to multiple reports.
