The week after a big win is always huge in terms of preparation.

It can be easy to let up and relax, but it’s important to stay locked in and prepare for the next game.

After Florida upset Tennessee on Saturday, Billy Napier knew his team had to continue their preparation. This week in practice, Napier has been hammering the importance of good preparation.

“I thought we could have done a little better yesterday, to be quite honest,” Napier said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “I thought we did a lot of good things. Ultimately we have more to prove, we have work to do, we have to focus on what’s next, and we need to be thinking about how we can get better at our preparation. I think ultimately that’s to be determined. I think you prepare a certain way. It’s important that you prepare with some humility and also a little bit of fear, and that goes throughout the week. When it’s time to compete, there’s a confidence, a fearlessness, and a comfortability that you’d like to have. You go about your business the right way throughout the week, I think you have a chance to be in the right frame of mind when you compete.”

Florida will get an easier task this week as the Gators take on Charlotte, but Napier wants to continue preparing like the Gators are taking on a top team in the country. For him, consistency week in and week out is one of the most important aspects of a good team.

“That’s the challenge here right for us to sustain and be very consistent and operate in a certain way relative to our values, or convictions, our beliefs and not relative to the outcome or circumstance,” Napier said. “We’ve got to think about our vision and work that way and not compromise.”
