Billy Napier has seen enough of the body of work to believe he has confidence in the quarterback competition at Florida.

The Gators coach spoke to the media on Monday, and shared that they’re right in the middle of process and that 3 practices this week could determine the process, but did not a set timeline.

Napier said he’s pleased with the vertical passing game, especially because of the young wide receivers.

“Add a dimension to our team,” Napier said. “I think we’ve seen some players emerge and prove so have been very pleased with that, making progress in that area.”

Napier said the receivers are extremely fast with documented speed, which helps, and that includes Aiden Mizell, Andy Jean and Eugene Wilson.

“Receiver is still a very skilled position,” he said. “It’s one thing to be fast, it’s another thing to play fast. And so there’s a mental component here relative to my assignment, my technique, my adjustment to the coverage. Whether it’s steps or depth, or landmarks on the field, I think we’re seeing them kind of get comfortable. I think Tre in particular last night really cut it loose for the first time. He’s kind of had some soft tissue issues to start camp. His presence was known out there last night. I think he’ll make our team better. They’ve got character, they want to be good players, they’re good teammates, I think they’re hard at work trying to improve their role relative to the team.”
