Billy Napier to return: Fans, media react to Florida’s decision to retain head coach

Billy Napier is set to return with Florida confirming the embattled head coach will be back to lead the Gators.
The decision to keep Napier is a stunning one after he entered the regular season on a hot seat after a pair of lackluster seasons. Results did not start off great again in 2024 but the Gators have looked much better over the middle portion of the season.
After blowout losses to Miami and Texas A&M in the first 3 games of the season, Florida has been 3-2 overall with hard-fought losses to Tennessee and Georgia. However, it was still unexpected that a 4-4 overall record entering the final 4 games of the season would bring Napier back.
Instead, Napier does indeed look poised to get another season in 2025 after a 15-18 overall record across his first 2+ seasons. That kind of decision is admittedly a tough one for some to swallow, and fans have not been bashful about their reactions online.
Some have vowed to stop supporting Florida football until the program decides to get serious while others have pointed at AD Scott Stricklin as the major issue in Gainesville. Fans of other SEC teams also reacted to the news with many expressing positivity at the chance to get another game against Napier.

Yeah, I’m done. Don’t renew your season tickets and stop going to games. This program, with this leadership, doesn’t deserve our support. https://t.co/LfKvgbJx83

If we really are going to do this. We better take all the buyout money we had for a buyout and dump it into NIL for next season. https://t.co/pKioMinLCM

Scott Stricklin is the worst thing that’s ever happened to Florida Athletics.
After 27 years of being a Bull Gator, this will be my last. https://t.co/alLDo6dTBo

if you have to put a message out clearing up that your coach isn’t going to be fired then he should have been let go already https://t.co/trT1Tq1Oxb
