Bold Predictions: Gators dial up the pressure on Justin Worley
The matchup of Florida and Tennessee this season doesn’t have the high stakes associated with it like past games between these two SEC East rivals. Regardless, it’s still a monumental game for both the Gators and Vols as they look to each get a statement win.
Despite winning the last nine games, the Gators are a slight 2.5 underdog heading into tomorrow’s showdown. With such a slight margin on the betting lines, this is a game that could go either way. We attempt to predict how tomorrow will turn out for the Gators.
Here are our bold predictions for Florida before they kick it off in Neyland Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
Bold Prediction #1: Kelvin Taylor leads the Gators in rushing yards
Tennessee has the worst run defense in the SEC, so the Gators should have success on the ground tomorrow. While Matt Jones may get the bulk of the carries and wear down the Tennessee front seven, I think Taylor will be the main benefactor. His speed and field vision should allow him to take advantage of a weaker defensive line.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the standout sophomore to break a few big runs against the Vols and lead the Gators in rushing yards.
Bold Prediction #2: Treon Harris takes at least 8 snaps
The obvious storyline for Florida will be Jeff Driskel’s performance and how he bounces back from a poor game against Alabama two weeks ago. While Driskel remains the starter, the coaches have expressed an interest in getting the true freshman Treon Harris some more snaps. I believe that the coaches’ desire to get Harris in the game combined with a slow first half for Driskel will accelerate the timeline of getting Harris involved in the offensive game plan.
Look for Harris to be a change-of-pace player for the Gators and someone who could be dangerous in the Wildcat formation. If the Gators’ offense continues to struggle, their only option may be to throw Harris into the game and see if things improve.
Bold Prediction #3: Florida gets at least four sacks
I realize four is a large number, but that’s why they call it bold predictions. Anyway, the Gators’ front seven has struggled in its first three games, recording just three sacks which is tied for the least in the SEC. Florida should have an easier time getting pressure in the backfield with how thin Tennessee is at the offensive line. The Vols have allowed the most sacks in the SEC and with guys like Dante Fowler, Neiron Ball, Alex McCalister and others lining up for the Gators, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Orange and Blue knocked down Justin Worley more than a few times tomorrow afternoon.
