Brenton Cox is staying in the SEC East.

The former five-star recruit abruptly left Georgia this week and entered the transfer portal without any official word from the Bulldogs. The team deleted Cox from the official online roster but that was the only action publicly taken by the program following the initial report of the linebacker leaving Kirby Smart’s program.

Just days later, Cox has decided to stick in the SEC East and will play for Dan Mullen’s Florida program after jumping into the NCAA transfer portal this week. Cox will wear No. 6 for the Gators after wearing No. 1 in Athens during his freshman season.

Cox appeared in 11 games for the Bulldogs during his true freshman season, registering 20 tackles and one sack in 2018.

One of the five-star members of Georgia’s 2018 recruiting class, Cox was ranked as the nation’s No. 2 strongside defensive end and the No. 23 overall prospect nationally. The Stockbridge, Ga., native signed with the Bulldogs over Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.
