Chipper Jones and Danny Kanell are both outspoken users of social media. On Saturday, the two got into a squabble over college football.

It all started with Kanell taking a shot at Florida. After the Gators defeated No. 9 Ole Miss, Kanell trolled his old rival by “congratulating” UF on being the SEC’s version of the Kansas Jayhawks.

Jones is associated with the Peach State for his legendary Atlanta Braves career, but he is originally from the Sunshine State. He grew up in DeLand, Florida, about a 95-mile drive southeast of UF campus. Jones went off on Kanell’s Gator jab. He took aim at Kanell’s FSU career and post-playing days, also getting a little nasty.

Jones used the block function of X (formerly Twitter) to keep Kanell’s mindless drivel from appearing on his timeline again. Kanell addressed Jones again, seeing that he had been blocked, taking more shots at Florida and calling the Hall of Fame 3rd baseman sensitive.

It’s a big weekend for Kanell. His alma mater, Florida State, improved to 2-9 on the season with a 41-7 win over FCS Charleston Southern. It marked the first time this season that the Seminoles scored more than 21 points in a football game.

Florida and Florida State play on Saturday in Tallahassee to wrap up the regular season.
