C.J. Gardner-Johnson is heading to Detroit!

The former Florida and Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints defensive back reached an agreement with the Lions Sunday night. Just like that, one of the top defensive back free agents remaining is off the market.

Gardner-Johnson has played 4 years in the NFL, 3 with the Saints and 1 with the Eagles. He was selected 105h overall in the 4th Round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Gardner-Johnson was a good player in New Orleans, but took off in 2022 with the Eagles. He totaled 6 interceptions and 8 pass deflections, also earning 1 sack and 67 tackles, the most of his career. He has 11 interceptions across his 4 years in the league.

Detroit is loaded heading into the new season. The Lions are the Lions of the past no more, adding David Montgomery, Emmanuel Moseley, Cam Sutton and Alex Anzalone in free agency to go with Gardner-Johnson. That adds to a strong group that includes Amon-Ra St. Brown, Aidan Hutchinson, Jameson Williams and Penei Sewell, with a solid option of Jared Goff at QB.

The Lions, for the first time in a while, will be legitimate contenders in the NFC North.
