College football fans and media members are used to the Saturday after Thanksgiving being “Rivalry Weekend.”
But, with TV slots needing to be filled, more games are being moved up to Friday. For example, the Mizzou-Arkansas rivalry has taken over Black Friday in recent years out of the SEC.
On Monday, the ACC announced its schedule for 2022, and fans weren’t happy to see the Florida-Florida State game in Tallahassee moved up to Friday for this coming season.
Florida State’s AD issued a statement on the decision on Monday night:

Why is the Florida vs FSU game going to be on a Friday?

ACC is holding up CFP expansion talks and moving Florida-Florida State to Friday. Some Group of 5 stuff right there.https://t.co/NGloMcgClz

With the UF-FSU game being moved to Friday before the season starts, is there a way they could change it back to Saturday if hypothetically both teams are contending for either conference championships or playoff appearances?

Just when you thought driving on interstates in Florida was dangerous enough, now imagine driving on them on Black Friday when the biggest in-state rivalry game takes place. https://t.co/dATXlW4RMC pic.twitter.com/AJDP6DFgP9

Florida-FSU on Black Friday sounds to me like a really great way to get more people killed on Florida highways than necessary.

Yeah, that same Friday night is likely going to be a Florida HS football playoff date lol. https://t.co/uDAy6MPHml

Yes, this is strange, but it looks like it won’t become a regular thing. The Gators have the game in Gainesville listed for Saturday, Nov. 25, in 2023.
