As if the Florida-Georgia game needed another layer of intrigue.

This year’s edition of the rivalry will pit Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator Mel Tucker against Gators sophomore quarterback Luke Del Rio in Jacksonville, Florida. Oddly enough, Luke is the son of former Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio, on whose staff Tucker served from 2009-2012.

The elder Del Rio will return to EverBank Field, where he coached from 2003-2011, to watch his son and former NFL assistant duke it out for SEC East bragging rights. After the Jaguars fired Del Rio, Tucker went 2-3 in the team’s interim coach.

Now the coach of the Oakland Raiders, Del Rio will attend the Florida-Georgia game the day before is team plays at Tampa Bay. The No. 14 Gators (5-1, 3-1) and Bulldogs (4-3, 2-3) kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday.

“Obviously, we spent a lot of time playing catch before the games down on that field,” Jack Del Rio told the Associated Press. “Very cool memories. We’ve got a lot of pictures, a lot of memories of us spending time together there.”
