Billy Napier has a new strength coach as he heads into Year 3 of his Florida tenure.

Craig Fitzgerald is heading back to college football after spending the past four seasons with the New York Giants. He will hold the title of Director of Football Performance with the Gators.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Craig and his family — his wife, Mary, and sons, Mac, Joe and Luke, to Gainesville and to the UF community,” Napier said in a program release. “We’re very excited to add Coach Fitz to our team. He brings a significant level of experience in both college and the NFL. He will help each player on our team reach their potential. His reputation precedes itself and we are excited about the leadership he will bring and the impact he will have on our entire organization.”

Napier isn’t the only Florida coach to speak on the new hire. Steve Spurrier chimed in on social media, calling Fitzgerald one of his best strength coaches.

Fitzgerald was a strength coach for Spurrier at South Carolina from 2009-to-2011. His other stops include Penn State, Tennessee and the Houston Texans.

“I’m extremely excited to join coach Napier and his staff, and to be part of Gator Nation,” Fitzgerald said via the team website. “I look forward to being part of such a storied program and can’t wait to get to work.”

Mark Hocke, who served as the strength coach for Napier’s first two seasons, remains with Florida but has been reassigned to a new role.
