Dan Mullen on blowout loss to South Carolina: ‘I certainly don’t think they gave up’
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators were embarrassed by South Carolina on Saturday night in Columbia, losing 40-17.
It was a lackluster effort all around for the Gators, who looked like they quit on their coaching staff.
Mullen wasn’t ready to say that in his postgame press conference, though. Instead, he praised his players’ effort.
Here’s some of what he had to say in his press conference:
On not giving up:
Dan Mullen on #Gators: 'I certainly don’t think they gave up.'

On whether or not he’ll make staff changes:
Mullen asked if this game could accelerate staff changes. Says he's not going to get into that "We need to evaluate where we're at." Says they're excited to get back home next week for the first time in a while.

On several players having the flu, including QB Emory Jones:
Dan Mullen says the players "faced a lot of adversity and continued to battle", says Emory Jones "tested positive for the flu this morning" and #Gators had to "fly (sick) players up separately"

On what went wrong:
Dan Mullen says he can't explain what went wrong tonight for the #Gators in a 40-17 loss to South Carolina: “That’s a tough one. I thought our guys had a great attitude this week.”
He says flu bug struck team this week to the point they “we had to fly some guys up separately.”

Florida gets a chance to regroup next week, hosting Samford. Will Mullen still be around at that point? That remains to be seen.
