Dan Mullen on Florida’s issues with penalties: ‘Just a lack of mental toughness’
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators went into Lexington on Saturday night and lost to Kentucky, 20-13.
It was a rough night for the Gators in terms of penalties, as they committed 15 infractions, costing them 115 yards.
The Gators actually gained more yards than the Wildcats, 382 to 224, but yards don’t always equal points, so Florida leaves town with a loss.
After the game, Mullen had a lot to say in his postgame press conference. Here’s some of what he told reporters:
On the offensive output:
Dan Mullen asked if he was out-coached tonight by Kentucky. "No. 382 yards. I guess that's sputtering. We had 382 and they had 211."

On the lack of mental toughness with the penalty issues:
#Gators coach Dan Mullen on penalties: 'You can’t do that. Just lack of mental toughness.'
— Edgar Thompson (@osgators) October 3, 2021
Mullen on mistakes/penalties: "They were there. You see them. In the SEC you're not going to make the mistakes that we did and win the game."
— Nick de la Torre (@delatorre) October 3, 2021
On why Kaiir Elam didn’t play:
Mullen says Kaiir Elam didn't think he could go tonight.

On his conservative approach prior to halftime:
Mullen says they were on the road and making a bunch of errors, so he decided to take it into halftime and not create another issue.

Can Florida bounce back moving forward? This loss certainly has Florida fans upset with their team.
