Anthony Richardson was a 4-star dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class and will stay in his hometown of Gainesville to play college football.

Now with the Florida Gators, Richardson will be in the mix to back up starter Kyle Trask in 2020.

Recently, coach Dan Mullen praised Richardson’s ability to pick up the Florida offense, particularly since, prior to this past week, there wasn’t much on-field instruction that could be done (via 247Sports):

“Obviously he was really limited,” Mullen said Thursday of Richardson. “We were limited in what we were able to do. Like, ‘Hey, you’ve got a walkthrough without a football.’ There’s little things you can do. It’s like taking batting practice without a ball or bat, I guess. It makes since at the quarterback position to try to teach somebody. … there’s little things you can teach without a football. But it’s much easier and better to teach with a football at the quarterback position.

“From what I’ve seen so far, he picks things up really fast, which is great,” Mullen said. “He’s taken a lot in and learned a lot from our ability to have all these different meetings. He’s picked things up really fast. I’m really excited about his future.”

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Richardson was the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2020 and the No. 30 overall recruit from the state of Florida.

What role will he carve out for himself this fall? We’ll find out over the next few weeks.
